Students at the Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology (QASMT) study the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program.

With its academic breadth and world focus, this program is recognised by leading international educational institutions, research bodies, and increasingly, the corporate world.

The IB program has a holistic approach to education and aims to produce socially aware, ethical and globally focused students.

Through the IB program, QASMT students study:

  • English
  • a second language – Mandarin or Spanish or French or German
  • Psychology or Business and Management
  • two of the following subjects – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Design Technology, Computer Science or Music.
  • Mathematics.
Students are also required to complete Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE).

International research has shown that IB Diploma graduates have a significantly higher success rate at university as a result of the grounding they receive in this program.

The academically rigorous curriculum dispels the traditional models of passive learning.

QASMT is in partnership with The University of Queensland (UQ). The partnership affords QASMT students with enhancement and enrichment opportunities in areas such as Health Sciences, Engineering, Chemical Sciences, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Robotics and Neuroscience as well as participation the Engineers Without Borders and Pulse programs.
Upon successful completion of their IB Diploma QASMT students may also take advantage of the UQ Credit for International Baccalaureate students’ arrangements.

The relationship of the students and teachers is based on intellectual challenge and interdependent enquiry.

Beyond this, QASMT encourages students to develop learning groups to accelerate their learning.

Everyone at QASMT is active, involved and curious.
