The Academy seeks to offer an experience that is positioned between traditional senior secondary schooling and university. Students attracted to the Academy also bring with them maturity beyond their years and a heightened enthusiasm to play an active role in decisions that impact on them.
The student voice is critical to the decision-making process at QASMT. The students have formed their own decision-making body that meets regularly to discuss issues and develop initiatives that will make our Academy more successful in achieving its mission.
They are currently leading the following initiatives:
- Business operations of the refectory
- Expanding the uniform line
- Curriculum reviews
- Social opportunities, including the semi-formal.
Our students demonstrate mature approaches to developing and maintaining peer relationships. Our refectory is a hub of networking and social interaction for our students who take the opportunity to enjoy quality food in a student-friendly setting.
Due to the opportunities offered at our Academy our students are often on campus outside the hours of a traditional school day.
For this reason some of our facilities are open from 7.30 am (gym and the library), and the refectory opens at 7.30 am for those who arrive too early to have had breakfast.
In addition, we offer voluntary tutoring after school in most subject areas. The library closes at 5.00 pm daily.
