Brain Bee Challenge 2017
Last term, a selection of year 10 students participated in Round 1 of the Australia-New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge (ABBC). Round 1 of the ABBC was a great success with over 1,000 students from across Queensland participating. Our students prepared for the challenge with the help of some amazing year 11 mentors Shambhavi Mishra, David Nguyen, Maggie Wang, Kira Villars and Sharon Lam, who volunteered to run lunchtime tutorial sessions for students participating in the challenge.
We congratulate Peter Krup, Hillary Le, Caitlyn Leeson, Lorna Gan and Gautam Nair who were ranked the top 5 performing students from QASMT and are invited and eligible to participate in Round 2.
Round 2 of the 2017 ABBC Queensland State Final will be held at the Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland on Tuesday July 18 2017. The day will include an Individual and Team Challenge to
determine the 2017 ABBC Queensland Champions, as well as tours of the research laboratories and
neuroscience presentations. The ABBC Queensland Brain Bee Co-ordinator, Associate Professor Bruno Van Swinderen, will be hosting the day.
Individual Challenge competitors compete for some great prizes including the chance to progress to the 2017 Australia-New Zealand Brain Bee National Final which is on Dec 5 at the Sydney Convention Centre. The Queensland Individual Challenge Champion will receive return airfares for themselves and a guardian to attend the National Final.
We wish our Brain Bee students the best of luck for round 2 of the Australia-New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge.
