Congratulations to Year 7 students Olivia, Bela and Nerissa, who received the Overall Winner award in the 'Science Investigation' category of the 2019 Kids’ Metro STEM Convention at last night’s Celebration Event for their project “Does changing light intensity affect algae growth?”
Algae can be used on Mars as both a food and energy source. Students grew algae for several weeks in the presence of either a 10 watt, 14 watt or 25 watt light bulb. Their results were quite conclusive: the higher the light bulb wattage, the larger the surface area of algae growth.
