Cricket Success at QASMT – Semi Finalists of the Metropolitan Tournament

Firstly, thank you to the whole team, Coach – Mr Kerry HASELL and Sports Coordinator – Ms Kate Oxenford for organising the entire team and giving us the opportunities to excel at sport.

The team (Semi Finalists of the Metropolitan Tournament):

Nathan Hettige, Ishan Joshi, Sai Valluru (Captain), Mihir Chipalkatty, Dhruv Tanwar, Alex Bowman, Srimanth Annapureddy, Harrison Price, Stephan Abraham, Waleed Arshad, Abhishek Kasibohtla, Sahil Singh, Tomin George, Parangat Pushkarna, Afnan Muhamad and James Wang.

Just like every year, QASMT put several teams in the District Gala Day Sports event. Our Opens Cricket Team had an unbeaten run of six games until we were defeated in the Semi Finals of the South East Queensland Metropolitan competition.

The team advanced through the initial Gala Day rounds by achieving comprehensive victories on the first of two Gala days. Unfortunately the second day was ruled out due to poor weather but we were awarded the premiership for the district competition based on our exceptional performance on the first day.

Before our advancement to the Metropolitan competition, in good spirit the Gala Day final was replayed against Indooroopilly SHS, who equally deserved the opportunity to advance into finals whom QASMT beat in the rematch.

Next two rounds of the competition were quite challenging, but also provided the whole team to bond together and further extend the good friendships. QASMT won the first two knockout rounds of the Metropolitan rounds, until we were defeated in the Semi-Final with a very close margin.

Overall, the whole team would like to thank the school staff and students for supporting us throughout in the quest for not only achieving high in academics but also sport. Our exceptional performances also saw QASMT host two of the Metropolitan games, which is a pride in itself.

Nevertheless of the outcome, it was truly an enjoyable and a memorable experience that the whole team and the QA community will cherish.
