Heron Island Trip – 5-12 December 2014

The Heron Island Trip was amazing! I am so glad I had to opportunity to be a part of this trip. We gained so many new skills, made many friends and created such wonderful memories. Each day was different, letting us explore many aspects from a biological point of view. I definitely recommend for students to be a part of this trip, as it is an opportunity they won’t want to miss. With the coordination and organisation from the teachers and staff, we got to participate in many activities (my favourite was snorkelling), and got to know many new students, who are now our close friends. This whole trip was extremely fun, and very new to me, and I’m so happy that I got to be a part of it.

Heron Island has definitely been my number one experience since coming here to QASMT. It has been such a privilege to explore our world on such a remote location. I must admit I was completely surprised by the biodiversity on such a minute landmass. Vibrant purple Diploria corals, white tipped sharks and green sea turtles were only some of the organisms that we saw during our visit. Snorkelling was definitely a highlight, despite my slight fear of the ocean and gave me whole new perspective into the world of the deep blue. As well as this, I was blessed to have made some very close friends on our expedition. The soft white sand and bright blue ocean also makes for very nice photos! I was so saddened to leave Heron Island because the memories I have made are completely unforgettable.
