On Wednesday March 8, our school community celebrated the Opening of the Confucius Classroom. Last year our Academy was granted the honour by the Confucius Institute QUT to host the Confucius Classroom at our Academy. Confucius Institute aims to promote the Chinese language and culture, support local Chinese teaching internationally, and facilitate cultural exchanges. The objective of the Confucius Classroom is to provide assistance in the teaching and learning of the Chinese language and culture in schools. With the annual funding, the QASMT Confucius Classroom will be able to run activities that include cultural classes, language competitions and professional development for teachers.
The Opening Ceremony was held in conjunction with the Harmony Day celebration. The occasion was graced by the presence Dr Zhao Yongchen, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Brisbane, Professor Scott Sheppard, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development), Mr Antoine Barnaart, Director of Confucius Institute QUT and Ms Linda Lin, Duputy Director of Confucius Institute QUT. The ‘Confucius Classroom’ plaque was unveiled by Dr Zhao Yongchen, following cultural items, Chinese Fan Dance, Chinese Martial Art and Lion Dance performed by students. These cultural items were made possible through the establishment of the Confucius Classroom.
