On Friday 18 July, QASMT Science Ambassadors attended the Kids’ STEM Camp Inspiration Conference at The University of Queensland. Our role was to help out with all aspects of activities on the day, which included running workshops, being the MC for the event, and serving lunch. The Kids’ STEM Conference was not only, by far, the most fun science event I have experienced, but also very enriching when it came to developing skills in leadership and team work. One of the countless highlights of the day was running the workshop “Water filters around the world”. During the workshop, the Science Ambassadors taught both upper primary and lower high school students about how to build a water filter out of everyday materials, and why trade and humanitarian aide amongst the international community is so important to many people. During the activities we helped to facilitate active discussions among the enthusiastic young students which inspired new and innovative ideas.
Overall, Friday was a great success and was really rewarding. We would like to thank the teachers and staff who helped to provide this amazing opportunity. And of course, especially Mr Bailey, without whom we wouldn’t have had this wonderful experience. Anna Truffet, Year 11 Science Ambassador
