Queensland Academies Host the STEM Girl Power Camp

Last week the Queensland Academies played an important role in hosting the inaugural DET STEM Girl Power camp. Twenty- two Year 10 girls, representing each of the 7 regions were selected through a rigorous application process.
The girls, buddied by Year 11 students from the Toowong campus undertook a range of STEM related activities, met with inspirational practitioners and attended the World Science Festival. The aim of the camp was to encourage girls to participate in STEM at school and inspire them to consider STEM as a future career option. One of the highlights was the opportunity to participate in the World Science Festival and to meet Professor Sylvia Earle, one of the world’s most respected oceanographers and Bernie Hobbs, the well-known science journalist.
