STEM Girl Power Camp – What is the STEM Girl Power Camp?
The study and practice of science, technology, engineering and mathematics is collectively known as STEM. The second annual STEM Girl Power Camp is an initiative of Advancing education: An action plan for education in Queensland. The camp aims to encourage girls to participate in STEM-focused activities and go back to school and inspire others to participate in STEM. Approximately 60 Year 10 female students from across Queensland will have the opportunity to participate. Teachers from the Queensland Academy of Science, Mathematics and Technology will lead the camp with regional supervising teachers travelling with students from across Queensland.
The STEM Girl Power Camp will be held from Tuesday 20 March to Saturday 24 March 2018. Year 10 girls from across Queensland will travel to Brisbane for the welcome session hosted by QASMT on Tuesday evening, 20 March 2018.
Students will stay with teachers in supervised share accommodation in the Brisbane CBD for four nights from Tuesday 20 March to Friday 23 March, before returning home on Saturday 24 March 2018.
Camp activities will take place at a number of locations in Brisbane including the World Science Festival (WSF) based at Southbank and laboratories of universities and research institutions.
