Physics Dreamworld Excursion
On Wednesday May 11, Year 11 and Year 10 Physics students journeyed to the Gold Coast to study the mechanics of roller coasters. Year 11 studiously applied their knowledge of centripetal acceleration, simple harmonic motion and banking angles to deconstruct Mick Doohan’s Motocoaster and The Claw. Year 10 were forced to ride the Giant Drop and Tower of Terror a minimum of three times in order to ensure valid and reliable data collection. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it.
All students have thoroughly enjoyed converting their carefully collected roller coaster data into internal assessments. Mr Juan is enjoying marking them almost as much as all the rides he went on. Thanks to Mr Hunter for all his organisation as well as Mr Overland, Mr Juan, Dr Greenwood and Ms Josey-Napier for their supervision on the day.
