Year 10 student Huw Evans wins Pierre de Coubertin Award

Congratulations to Huw Evans who has been awarded the coveted Pierre de Coubertin Award for 2017. The award, named after the founder of the modern Olympic Games, promotes the importance of participation in sport and physical activity. It recognises students who demonstrate initiative, teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play through participation in a variety of sports, qualities that are consistent with the fundamental aims of the Olympic movement.

Huw has been involved in a variety of sports at his previous school and has continued this involvement in his first year at Queensland Academies in Volleyball, Cross Country and Athletics. He has also achieved success at a National level in Athletics through his role as a guide for a vision impaired athlete.

Huw will receive a certificate signed by Mr John Coates AC, President of the Australian Olympic Committee, at a presentation ceremony in July and have the opportunity to participate in an Olympic Leadership Program.
