At the Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology (QASMT), we believe that student success is a shared responsibility. Our Parent Engagement Framework reflects our commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships between families and our school community.
Grounded in research and aligned with the Department of Education’s Equity and Excellence strategy, this framework outlines how we work collaboratively with parents to support student wellbeing, personal excellence, and academic achievement. The framework is built on four key pillars:
- Engagement – Creating intentional opportunities for parents to connect, contribute and build strong relationships within the school community.
- Culture and Wellbeing – Celebrating diversity, fostering inclusion, and supporting student wellbeing through a united community approach.
- Partnership and Voice – Encouraging shared decision-making and amplifying parent and student voice in the educational journey.
- Communication – Ensuring open, respectful and purposeful communication that builds trust and supports learning.
The framework includes practical strategies such as Year Level Parent Representatives, transition and orientation programs, learning-focused events, and communication platforms like Daymap and QParents. It also outlines how QASMT celebrates cultural diversity and fosters a community where every family is welcomed and valued.
We invite all families to read the full framework and join us in creating a vibrant, supportive, and high-achieving school environment.
Parent Representative Program at QASMT
At Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology (QASMT), we believe in the power of partnership between families and the school to enhance student success and wellbeing. Our Parent Representative Program provides a meaningful opportunity for parents to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the QASMT community.
About the Program
The Parent Representative Program is designed to foster strong communication, build community, and support parent engagement across all year levels. Each year, 2–3 Year Level Parent Representatives (YLPRs) are nominated per year level to help facilitate this important connection.
The Role of a Parent Representative:
• Act as a liaison between the school and the parent body
• Share information about year-level events and initiatives
• Help build a sense of community through informal gatherings and networking
• Support open and respectful communication
• Encourage participation in school events
This is a voluntary role that focuses on connection—not on handling complaints or replacing direct communication with teachers. Representatives are supported by the Lead Parent Representative and the school leadership team.
Why Get Involved?
- Make meaningful connections with other families
- Support your child’s educational journey
- Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive school culture
- Play a positive role in strengthening the QASMT community
How to Join
Parents interested in becoming a Year Level Parent Representative will be invited to express interest via a school survey at the beginning of each year. Participation is optional, and privacy is respected at all times.
