Welcome to 2025!
It is with great excitement that I welcome you all back for another year at QASMT! The start of a new school year always brings a renewed sense of energy and possibility, and I am thrilled to see our campus buzzing with enthusiasm once again. This week has been filled with many firsts – first days, first assemblies, and first steps in new journeys. I am so proud of how our students, both new and returning, have embraced this fresh start.
First Day for Our Year 7s and new Year 10s
Tuesday was a big day for our Year 7 and new Year 10 students, as they officially began their journey at QASMT. Walking through the gates on the first day of a new school is always a moment filled with nerves, anticipation, and excitement. I had the pleasure of meeting many of our new students, and it was wonderful to see their curiosity and eagerness to get started.
The day began with our Commencement Assembly, where I had the opportunity to welcome them to our community. From there, they spent the day getting to know their new surroundings, meeting their teachers, setting up their lockers, and making those all-important first connections with their peers. Our House Deans played an essential role in guiding them through the day, helping them settle in and feel at home.
Transitioning to a new school, especially one as unique as QASMT, can be both exciting and overwhelming. I have no doubt that these students will soon find their rhythm and make the most of the opportunities ahead of them. Watching them take these first steps into their next chapter was truly a joy, and I cannot wait to see them flourish in the months ahead.
Whole School Commencement Assembly
Wednesday marked the return of our entire school community, and we celebrated in the way we always do, with our traditional clap-in for new students. As our Year 7 and Year 10 students made their way into the auditorium, they were met with cheers and applause from their peers. This is one of my favourite traditions at QASMT, as it represents the warm, welcoming nature of our community. I could see the nerves melt away as our new students took their seats, embraced by the support of those around them.
During the Commencement Assembly, I had the privilege of sharing the theme for 2025: Selflessness. Each year, we set an overarching theme to guide our culture and actions, and this year, I want us to focus on how we can uplift and support those around us. Selflessness is about putting others before ourselves, embracing kindness, and fostering a sense of community, qualities that are not only essential for personal growth but also for making a meaningful impact in the world.
After unveiling the theme, I introduced our new teaching staff, who bring with them a wealth of knowledge, passion, and dedication. We are incredibly fortunate to have such talented educators joining us this year, and I know they are eager to get to know our students and help them reach new heights.
We also heard from our 2025 Portfolio Captains, who gave us a glimpse into the exciting events planned for Term 1. From academic competitions to leadership initiatives, House events, and community projects, it is clear that we are in for an action-packed start to the year. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I am sure students walked away feeling inspired and motivated for what lies ahead.
Year 7 Pledge Ceremony
Thursday was a particularly meaningful day for our Year 7 students, as they took part in their Pledge Ceremony. This event is an important milestone, marking their official induction into the QASMT community.
Standing together, our newest students recited the SMT Oath, pledging to uphold the values of our Academy – integrity, curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. It was a powerful moment, as they took this step towards embracing the responsibilities and opportunities that come with being a QASMT student. As each student came forward to receive their QASMT badge, I could see a mixture of pride, excitement, and determination on their faces.
The Pledge Ceremony is a reminder that every student who walks through our doors is joining something bigger than themselves – a community of learners, innovators, and future leaders. It symbolises their commitment to learning, personal growth, and making a difference in the world. Seeing them stand proudly on that stage, I couldn't help but feel immense pride for the journeys they are about to embark upon.
As we close out our first week of 2025, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome back to all students, staff, and families. This year is full of possibilities, and I encourage each of you to embrace every opportunity, support one another, and strive to be the best version of yourselves.
