As we enter the final weeks of Term 2, our Academy community continues to demonstrate the qualities that make QASMT such a vibrant and caring place to learn. This week has been characterised by a strong focus on academic commitment, meaningful service and global awareness, all of which reflect the values that underpin our school culture.

For many students, this week marks the commencement of examinations. Exam periods provide an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, develop resilience, and practise the skills of preparation, organisation and self-management. While academic achievement is important, we also recognise the effort, perseverance and growth that occur throughout the learning journey. I encourage all students to approach their examinations with confidence, balance and a commitment to doing their personal best.

Service to others remains a cornerstone of life at the Academy, and it has been wonderful to see students embracing opportunities to make a positive difference in their community. Recently students and staff have supported the Share the Dignity It's in the Bag campaign, donating essential items to assist women and girls experiencing hardship. Initiatives such as these encourage students to look beyond themselves, develop empathy and contribute to causes that have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
— Mahatma Gandhi

On Monday, we also recognised World Oceans Day, an international event that highlights the vital role our oceans play in sustaining life on Earth. As a school with a strong focus on science, sustainability and global citizenship, World Oceans Day provided an opportunity for students to reflect on the environmental challenges facing our marine ecosystems and consider the actions we can take to protect them. Whether through reducing waste, making sustainable choices or supporting conservation efforts, every action contributes to protecting our oceans for future generations.

These experiences remind us that education extends far beyond academic achievement. Through service, environmental stewardship and engagement with the wider community, our students continue to develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to make a positive difference in the world. I thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing commitment to these important pursuits.

Alongside these important opportunities for personal growth and community engagement, many students have also distinguished themselves through academic enrichment activities that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Academic competitions provide students with valuable opportunities to challenge themselves, apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, and develop higher-order thinking skills. The Australian Economics Olympiad is one such prestigious competition, bringing together some of the nation's most capable young economists to test their understanding of economic principles and their ability to think critically about complex issues.

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our students, Clement, Zander, Richard, and Vrishan, who have successfully progressed to the second round of the Australian Economics Olympiad 2026.

This accomplishment reflects their strong analytical thinking, dedication, and enthusiasm for economics. Competing against some of the nation's most talented young economists, they have demonstrated exceptional skill, perseverance, and commitment throughout the competition.

We congratulate Clement, Zander, Richard, and Vrishan on this well-deserved success and thank the staff who have supported them along the way. We wish them every success as they continue their Australian Economics Olympiad journey and look forward to seeing what they achieve in the next stage.

We are pleased to acknowledge students from Years 7–10 who have elected to participate in the Junior Science Olympiad Exam, organised by Australian Science Innovations and hosted at QASMT on Friday 12 June 2026.

The Junior Science Olympiad Exam is a challenging and rewarding competition that extends students' scientific understanding across Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, and Physics, encouraging high-level problem solving and critical thinking.

We congratulate all participating students for embracing this valuable opportunity to extend their scientific learning beyond the classroom and wish them every success in the competition.

As we approach the final fortnight of Term 2, I wish all students the very best through the examination period and look forward to seeing them continue to demonstrate the resilience, curiosity and commitment that have characterised the term, while celebrating their many achievements as we approach the semester break.
