Principal's Blog – Week 6, Term 1, 2026

The term is gathering momentum, and with it comes that unmistakable QASMT rhythm - challenge, opportunity, growth, repeat.

Esme & Kirsten

I would like to begin with gratitude.

To lead one major review is significant. To lead two consecutively is extraordinary.

Following our highly successful whole school Review, we transitioned directly into the rigorous and comprehensive 5 Year Review for the International Baccalaureate. As a school delivering both the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Years Programme, the level of consultation, documentation, reflection and precision required is substantial.

Esme and Kirsten have led these processes with clarity, composure and deep professionalism. Their work has gone well beyond compliance. They have ensured coherence, helped articulate our strengths, and clarified our direction for the next phase of our IB journey.

Their leadership reflects the very best of QASMT: thoughtful, strategic and unwaveringly student centred.

Please join me in thanking them for the extraordinary hours invested behind the scenes to position our school confidently for the future.

NAPLAN 2026 Readiness

In the coming weeks, our Year 7 and Year 9 students will participate in NAPLAN 2026.

Preparation is important. Calm preparation is even more important.

Device and Equipment Requirements

Students must bring:
Fully charged laptop
Plug in non-Bluetooth headphones without a microphone
Corded mouse recommended. No wireless or Bluetooth devices permitted
Pen or pencil for planning

Watches and smart technology are not permitted during testing.

Our goal is simple: remove technical stress so students can focus on demonstrating their learning with confidence.

House Assembly and Cross-Country Preparation

House Assemblies have returned with energy, colour and enthusiasm. War Cries are echoing once again across the campus.

There is something powerful about collective voice. With Cross-Country approaching, House spirit plays an important role. I encourage every student to commit, learn the words, embrace the rhythm and support your House with pride.

Culture is built through participation.

Year 7 Buddy Program

Our Year 7 students continue to settle confidently into QASMT life, supported by their senior buddies.

The Buddy Program is more than an orientation structure. It is belonging in action. Watching friendships develop across year levels remain one of the quiet joys of Term 1.

To our senior students, your leadership is noticed and valued.

Cross Country

House spirit came alive, belted out their supportive War Cries. Jackson House topped the awards! An inspiring achievement!

Whether you are racing at the front or running your personal best somewhere in the middle, what matters is commitment - to self and to House.

Thank you to all Staff who assisted before, during and after the event. Without your participation, events like the Cross Country would not happen.

QASMT STEM Scholars

A new and excited group of STEM Scholars were welcomed this week at an afternoon tea where they were presented with a SMT lab coat.  A workshop followed and brought together high-achieving students to extend their thinking through collaborative problem-solving and advanced exploration.

At QASMT, challenge is not something we avoid — it is something we intentionally design. Opportunities such as the STEM Scholars program create spaces where young, curious minds can explore complex ideas, work alongside like-minded peers, and deepen their passion for STEM subjects.

This is the work of future scientists, and it has already begun.

International Women's Day Breakfast

Today, we also marked International Women's Day with our annual breakfast.

We are grateful for our inspiring Guest Speakers, Dr. Divya Viswanathan and Kerstin Liebchen (Zonta).

The morning celebrated leadership, voice and the ongoing work of equity, particularly in STEM fields where representation matters deeply. Students heard stories of resilience and ambition and, importantly, saw possibility reflected in the experiences shared.

Thank you to our Parent Representatives Sonal Deshmukh, Jas Singh and Corianda Rayner, your support is appreciated!Int Woman's Day 26.jpg

Week 6 has been full: spirited assemblies, rigorous preparation, sporting representation, research launches and celebration of leadership at every level.

Momentum matters.

As we approach the midpoint of the term, I encourage every student to remain steady, purposeful and kind to themselves and to one another.

We are building something special here.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards,
