Last weekend, ten of our Duke of Edinburgh and Bridge Award students went on an Adventurous Journey to the Stanley River Environmental Education Centre. Our students enjoyed a stop at the award-winning pie shop in Fernvale, followed by setting up camp and then setting out to explore the lake in canoes. After a warm shower, some food and learning how to navigate for the next day’s adventure, they were challenged to start a fire with just one match. Joshua managed to do this first go! Which was a delight to the rest of the group as it meant more time for roasting marshmallows (and there was some gourmet roasting too!). The following morning everyone had to be up at 5am to get ready and be on the lake for sunrise. Each Bronze level student had a turn to lead the group and navigate using a compass and map. It was very cold but students showed their resilience and determination by persevering and having an all-around great attitude to life.
