Judo Gold Medallist
I want to start this week's blog by congratulating an extraordinary student, Yoyo Qi. Yoyo competed in the Australian School Championships in Judo, and won GOLD! They were successful in acquiring the Gold National Schools Medal, in the under 52kg Senior Girls (novice) Judo category.
The event had 120 schools represented from all states within Australia, as well as schools from New Zealand and Nauru. A big congratulations to you, Yoyo.
Arbor Day
On the 9th of October the Sustainable Futures team planted 50 native plants on our school campus, in celebration of Brisbane City's 133rd Arbor Day.
Arbor Day is celebrated throughout the world as a day to remember and educate on the importance of trees. Urban trees contribute to the health of our environment and our communities in a variety of ways. A few being; they cool our city, produce oxygen and store carbon and provide a food source and home for native wildlife.
Uniform Free Day for Beddown Shelter
Did you know that 47 is the average life expectancy of people who are homeless? This Monday we had a uniform free day where students brought a gold coin donation, to go towards the fundraising campaign Change47.
Change47, organised by Beddown, raises funds and awareness towards changing the low life expectancy. The student's gold coin donations are going towards funding six new Beddown venues across Queensland.
Lunchtime Music Concert
We love the sound of live music here at QASMT, and we are so lucky to have so many musically gifted students. This week, we had our first Lunchtime Concert, where six of our school bands from Years 8 and 10 performed classics, such as Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana, and current hits, such as You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift. For next time I'm requesting Eyes Closed by Ed Sheeran.
