Week 7 has been a very eventful week with three significant events taking place: the Year 11 Camp, National Reconciliation Week and the Singapore SISTEMIC International Science Fair. I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on these moments and share my thoughts with the entire school community.
Year 11 Camp
The Year 11 Camp is always an exciting and memorable experience for our students. It serves as a platform for personal growth, team building, and fostering a sense of camaraderie among the students. This year was no different. The camp was held in the beautiful Mapleton area, surrounded by nature's bounty. The students engaged in a variety of activities, ranging from challenging physical adventures to thought-provoking team-building exercises. One of the highlights of the camp was witnessing the students stepping out of their comfort zones, overcoming their fears, and supporting one another through various challenges. It was heartening to observe how they embraced the spirit of cooperation, resilience, and determination. The camp not only provided an opportunity for our students to bond with their peers but also enabled them to discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, and build lifelong friendships.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a crucial period for our school community, as we come together to acknowledge and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This week provides an opportunity to reflect on the past, promote understanding, and foster meaningful relationships based on mutual respect and reconciliation.
SISTEMIC
Saanvi, Nerissa and Mary recently attended an inter-disciplinary innovation festival, aptly named the Singapore International STEM Innovation Challenge or SISTEMIC for short. The event was organised by the National Junior College in Singapore and challenged the 287 attending students to work together to innovate sustainable solutions for current and future global challenges. Our students not only had the opportunity to work with their international peers, but also were able to present their own researched based design solutions to a panel of judges for review. They walked away winning the Bronze award for their research work on Investigating the Effect on wavelength on Chlorella vulgaris growth and fatty acid profile for floating bioreactor prototyping; an outstanding achievement given the international field they were against! In addition, Nerrisa's team won the Social Impact award and Saanvi's, the Best Engineering Product award. We are so proud of their achievements!
