Meet Our Chappy – Denise Ko
At Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology (QASMT), we are proud to have Chaplain Denise Ko as part of our student support team. Known warmly around campus as "Chappy Denise," she plays a key role in nurturing student wellbeing and fostering a caring, inclusive school environment.
Chappy Denise provides a listening ear, encouragement, and a calming presence for students who may be experiencing personal challenges or simply need someone to talk to. Her work complements the broader wellbeing initiatives at QASMT, helping students build resilience, develop positive relationships, and feel supported throughout their academic journey.
The chaplaincy service at QASMT is inclusive, non-intrusive, and voluntary. It is guided by the Queensland Department of Education's Chaplaincy and Student Wellbeing Officer Guidelines and is supported by community consultation and oversight.
Chappy Denise supports our school community by:
- Offering support to students, staff, and families
- Promoting a sense of belonging and community
- Assisting students during times of stress, grief, or transition
- Contributing to school programs and wellbeing activities
- Referring students to additional support services when appropriate
Chappy Denise is a valued part of our wellbeing team, and her support is always delivered with compassion, respect, and professionalism.
