Meet the QASMT House Deans

At QASMT, our House Deans are the heart of our eight vibrant Houses Agnesi, Curie, Da Vinci, Franklin, Hawking, Hollows, Jackson, and Newton. Each House is named after a renowned scientist or mathematician, reflecting our Academy's strong focus on science, mathematics, and technology.

Every student is allocated to a House when they enrol at QASMT, creating a sense of pride, belonging, and friendly competition. Students can earn points for their House through academic achievement, effort, attendance, sporting events, the war cry, and positive engagement in Academy life, while also developing leadership skills by guiding themselves and others in activities and contributing to the success of our community.

The Role of the House Dean

Each House is led by a House Dean, who works closely with the InStep Mentor Teacher to support the wellbeing, academic progress, and personal growth of every student in their House.

House Deans are the first point of contact for parents and play a key role in ensuring open communication between home and school. They monitor student progress, attendance, and behaviour, while promoting QASMT's values and maintaining high standards of conduct, uniform, and participation. House Deans also work closely with InStep Mentors, classroom teachers, and student leaders to create an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive.

The InStep Program – Working Hand in Hand with House Deans

The InStep Mentor Program is designed to help students develop the strategies and behaviours essential for success in the International Baccalaureate (IB) — including self-awareness, self-reliance, and an awareness of others.

InStep Mentors assist students with:

  • Staying informed about current processes and events at QASMT.
  • Engaging with our Positive Education Program and wellbeing check-ins.
  • Setting and reviewing academic goals.

InStep classes are mixed year levels, which helps students build cross-grade friendships and peer support networks. Younger students are paired with older buddies from the same InStep group to encourage regular, positive connections.

House Deans work closely with InStep Mentors to ensure every student's wellbeing and academic development is prioritised, from Year 7 right through to Year 12.
