Battle of the Bands

This week, our auditorium was the place to be as students and staff came together for Battle of the Bands! Across three lunchtimes, seven student bands took to the stage, each bringing their own unique sound and energy.

Ms Sullivan-Ward, our Head of Music, and I had the honour of judging the competition, and let me tell you - it was no easy task! The bands that performed were:

  • Psych shorties!
  • Paran0ia
  • Our Toxic Romance
  • The Weekdays
  • Blitz
  • The Betayls MK III
  • The Spires

The energy in the auditorium was electric. Not only were the bands giving it their all, but they also found ways to hype up the crowd even more by throwing treats into the audience! The atmosphere was unreal as students jumped up to dance, cheering on their friends and favourite bands. The students were up and moving, and the staff and I couldn't help but join in the fun.

And, of course, no Battle of the Bands would be complete without the legendary staff band, featuring lead vocals from our talented drummer Mr Freeman, playing some classic One Direction. Once again, they rocked the auditorium, proving that talent runs across all ages.

With so many incredible performances, the anticipation was high. The winner will be announced next week, and the victorious band will have the honour of headlining our Festival of Creativity at the end of Term 2. I can't wait to see who takes the crown!

Year Level Assemblies

Our Year Level Assemblies were held this week, with House Deans leading sessions filled with important updates and guidance for each cohort. I made sure to attend the Year 10 and Year 12 assemblies to personally speak with the students.

For our Year 10s, I introduced one of my absolute favourite opportunities at QASMT - the International STEM Tours. These tours are truly life-changing experiences, giving students the chance to travel overseas in Year 11 to immerse themselves in new cultural experiences. While 2026 might seem a long way off, now is the perfect time to start thinking about it!

I then met with our Year 12 students, who are now well into their final year of the IB. It's always a pleasure to speak with them, offering support and encouragement as they tackle what will be a challenging but rewarding year ahead.

Years 7-12 Parent Information Evening

Just like our Year Level Assemblies, our Parent Information Night provided a valuable opportunity for parents to hear directly from House Deans about what's in store for their students this year. Each session was tailored to the needs of the specific year groups, covering everything from academic expectations to wellbeing support.

Once again, I spoke with our Year 10 parents/caregivers, emphasising the importance of securing a spot for their students on the 2026 International STEM Tours. These tours are not just about science, they're about broadening horizons, immersing themselves in diverse cultures, building global connections, and inspiring students to pursue their passions. I love seeing how these experiences shape our students, and I hope many will take advantage of this incredible opportunity.

Year 11 and 12 Careers Session

For our senior students, Ms Judge, our Guidance Officer, led a session on university applications and career pathways. These sessions are vital for helping students understand the steps they need to take when applying to university, including key deadlines, scholarship opportunities, and tips for making strong applications.

It's never too early to start thinking about the future, and I encourage all Year 11 and 12 students to make the most of the support available to them. Whether they're aiming for a university degree, an apprenticeship, or another pathway, careful planning and informed decisions are key.

Week 4 was a big one, filled with music, information, and future opportunities. As we head into Week 5, I look forward to more exciting events and, of course, revealing the winners of Battle of the Bands!
