Curie House Charity Stall
This week began with a fantastic initiative from Curie House, who hosted a Second-Hand Market Stall on Monday across both lunch breaks. With a wonderful selection of donated clothes, books, games, and more, students and staff were able to browse and purchase pre-loved items while supporting a great cause. All proceeds from the market are going directly to the Alannah Foundation, supporting research and awareness for childhood brain cancer.
The Curie House team did a phenomenal job organising the stall, creating signage, sorting donations, and managing sales. Their efforts reflect the spirit of compassion and community we value at QASMT. A huge thank you to everyone who donated items or came along to support this meaningful fundraiser.
International Mindedness Futsal World Cup Finals
After two exciting weeks of matches and a brief postponement due to wet weather, the finals of the International Mindedness Futsal World Cup took place on Thursday afternoon on the oval. A large crowd of students came down to cheer on the teams, creating a fantastic atmosphere of energy and school spirit.
The matches showcased the incredible teamwork, strategy and passion our students brought to the competition. Congratulations to Team Korea, who were crowned champions of the Middle Years Cup, and Team France, who secured the Senior Years title in a well-fought final. A special mention goes to Team Mexico, who were awarded the Team Spirit Award for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship and commitment to the spirit of the competition.
The Futsal World Cup continues to be a highlight in the QASMT calendar, and we commend all participating students for embracing the values of international mindedness and language immersion.
Mario Kart Competition
A highlight on the co-curricular calendar every year, the Mario Kart Competition returned this week with a flurry of excitement. Organised by our Technology Portfolio Ambassadors, students from all year levels signed up for the chance to compete in one of the most anticipated gaming tournaments at SMT.
Trials were held throughout the week, building anticipation and friendly rivalries. The grand final will be held at the start of Week 6 for the top racers to battle it out for the coveted title of Mario Kart Champion.
Parent Information Evening
On Monday evening, we welcomed our parent community back to campus for our Parent Information Evening. The night began with a relaxed meet and greet in the courtyard, where parents had the chance to connect with our Leadership Team and Heads of Department over coffee, tea, and biscuits.
Following this, parents attended Year Level Information Sessions, where they heard from key staff about curriculum, assessment, and important events for the term ahead. We value the strong partnership between school and home, and it was wonderful to see so many parents engaging with their child’s learning journey.
STEM Tour Student Meeting
Excitement is building for our two STEM Tours taking place at the end of Term 3, with students heading to Europe and Japan. This week marked the first official Student STEM Tour Meeting, where students met with staff to begin planning their CAS group itineraries, review expectations and the Code of Conduct, and discuss general travel logistics.
This year, we’re especially excited to be adding Spain to our Europe tour itinerary to enrich the experience for students studying Spanish. I personally look forward to joining the European tour again this year, as it’s always an incredible experience to see our students engage with STEM in real-world, global contexts.
World Bee Day
On Monday 20 May, QASMT once again celebrated World Bee Day—a special event for our school community as the proud home of student-run beehives. Our Bee Club maintains the hives located at the back of campus and uses the experience to explore sustainable practices, biodiversity, and the vital role bees play in our environment.
Students involved in Bee Club not only learn about ecology and apiculture, but they also play a critical role in keeping our local environment thriving. It’s always a joy to celebrate the hard work of these students, and World Bee Day is a great reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship.
Student Achievements
We are incredibly proud of Jake, one of our outstanding Year 7 students who continues to impress both in the pool and on the track. Already a talented state swimmer, Jake has now added to his achievements with an amazing string of cross country results. He was named QASMT Year 7 Boys Age Champion, followed by a dominant win at the Northern Eagles District Cross Country, earning him a spot in the MetWest Regional Trials later this month.
Jake also competed in the Queensland Athletics All Schools Cross Country Championships, where he placed a remarkable 6th in the state, qualifying him for the National Championships later this year. Congratulations, Jake, on your incredible dedication and performance. We look forward to cheering you on as your sporting journey continues!
