My name is Angelique Salisbury, and it is a great privilege to step into the role of Acting Principal at QASMT from Thursday 11 September to Friday 19 September. I am genuinely excited to immerse myself in the rich culture of this remarkable school and to learn by experiencing firsthand the many opportunities that make QASMT such a unique and inspiring place of learning. I look forward to working alongside staff, students, and families during this time, and to celebrating the values and achievements that define our community.

Hawking Charity Drive for Eat Up

On Monday afternoon, members of Hawking House demonstrated an inspiring act of service that reflects the very best of the values at QASMT. Each year, Hawking leads its charity initiative in support of Eat Up, an organisation dedicated to providing lunches for children who might otherwise go without.

Students prepared sandwiches for the charity to distribute, working together with great enthusiasm and heart. Watching students dedicate their time and effort to helping others is always incredibly moving, and as a school we could not be prouder of their collective spirit of giving.Hawking Eat Up Charity-138.jpg

Year 12 Final House Assemblies

Tuesday was an especially emotional day for our community, as we held the final House Assemblies for our Year 12 students. These assemblies are always heartfelt occasions, with each Year 12 being farewelled by their INSTEP group. Younger students shared kind words and cherished memories, and small gifts were presented as tokens of appreciation.

The strong sense of family within each House was beautifully on display, highlighting the importance of these connections. For the seniors, this moment marks the beginning of the final chapter of their journey at QASMT.

STEM Tour Departure

On Wednesday evening, the Europe STEM Tour departed, a highly anticipated opportunity for the Year 11 students. Depending on their language of study, students will travel through Spain, France, Italy, and Germany, engaging in rich cultural and scientific experiences that will undoubtedly broaden their horizons. Many staff are accompanying them as chaperones, and Ms Kayrooz is thrilled to once again be joining this journey. This Sunday, the Japan STEM Tour will also set off, offering another extraordinary international learning experience. Both tours will return midway through the holidays, leaving students with treasured memories and a deeper global perspective to enrich their studies.

R U OK? Day

On my first day as Acting Principal, Thursday, we came together for R U OK? Day, taking a moment to reflect on the importance of checking in with those around us. During break times, students ran a fundraiser, selling KitKats paired with the simple yet powerful message: “R U OK?" and encouraging them to share kindness and spark meaningful conversations with friends. There were also origami heart-making activities, providing a tangible symbol of care and support. It was truly heart-warming to see students engage so thoughtfully, reminding one another that none of us are ever truly alone.

Looking Ahead

Next week marks the final week of Term 3. The Junior Sports Gala Day will be held, bringing together our Middle Year's students for a day of friendly competition and fun. Meanwhile, our Year 12s will enjoy their much-loved tradition of heading to Movie World on the last Friday of term. This event is always a joyful send-off, giving our seniors one last opportunity to relax and celebrate with their House Deans and peers before diving into the intensity of IB exam preparation and, ultimately, their graduation. It promises to be a week of celebration, laughter, and reflection to close out what has been an extraordinary term.

Warm regards

Angelique Salisbury

Acting Principal
