The energy across the Academy this week has been infectious! From capturing the perfect smiles on photo day to celebrating student achievements at our Awards Assemblies, this week has been full of joy, recognition, and connection. We've also embraced traditions both old and new, with Valentine's Day festivities and our first War Cry practices bringing students together.

Photo Day

Tuesday marked our annual photo day, where staff and students had their official photos taken for the year. It was wonderful to see everyone looking sharp in their uniforms, ready to represent the Academy with pride.

We also took the opportunity to capture our student leadership, bringing together our Academy Captains, House Captains, House Ambassadors, and Portfolio Captains for their official group photos. These photos are more than just keepsakes, they represent the hard work, dedication and leadership these students bring to our community every day.

From straightening ties to offering encouraging smiles, I was delighted to be part of the buzz and excitement. Seeing everyone come together with such enthusiasm reminded me of the pride we all share in being part of QASMT.

Awards Ceremony

On Wednesday, we gathered to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students from the end of last year at our Term 1 Awards Assemblies. Two ceremonies were held, one for our MYP students and another for our DP students, recognising excellence across academics, co-curricular activities, and self-improvement.

It's always inspiring to see the incredible accomplishments of our students and to reflect on the dedication and effort that went into achieving them. A huge congratulations to all our award recipients, you have set the bar high for the year ahead!

Newton Alumni Return

This week, Newton House held a special InStep Assembly that left a lasting impression on its students. We were fortunate to welcome back Amy, one of our brilliant alumni from 2024, as a guest speaker. Amy achieved an outstanding IB score of 44, a reflection of her incredible work ethic, determination, and perseverance during her time at QASMT. She is now embarking on an exciting journey at The University of Queensland, where she has been accepted into the prestigious dual Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program.

Amy shared her experiences from her time at QASMT, offering invaluable advice and tips to current Newton students. Her words inspired and resonated with the students, demonstrating that anything is possible by being focussed and resilient. Newton House students left the assembly not only motivated but also feeling a strong connection to their House's legacy of excellence and support. It was wonderful to see the impact Amy had as a role model, and we are incredibly proud of her achievements as she begins this next exciting chapter in her journey.

War Cry Practice

The House spirit at QASMT is truly unmatched, and this week saw the beginning of War Cry practices in preparation for Cross Country in Week 6. House Captains and House Ambassadors took the lead, rallying their houses and teaching them the war cries that will echo across the grounds on the big day.

These practices are a fantastic way to build camaraderie, house pride, and teamwork early in the year. Hearing the enthusiastic chants and seeing the excitement on students' faces as they worked together was a highlight of the week.

Chinese Lantern Festival in the Courtyard

This week, our courtyard came alive with the vibrant celebration of the Chinese Lantern Festival. Students were treated to an array of activities and games, immersing themselves in the rich traditions of this beautiful event. Lanterns adorned the space, creating a festive and warm atmosphere.

The festival provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about Chinese culture and its significance in marking the final day of the Lunar New Year celebrations. Many enjoyed crafting their own paper lanterns, while others tried on traditional garb.

Valentine's Day

Love was in the air on Friday as we celebrated Valentine's Day with roses, teddy bears, chocolates and for the first time ever - serenades! Students and staff enjoyed the sweet surprise of seeing deliveries make their way around the school, spreading joy and connection.

The serenades were a particularly fun addition this year, as students booked performances for their friends and loved ones, filling the campus with music and laughter. It was heartwarming to see the effort and thoughtfulness that went into making this day special for everyone.

As we wrap up Week 3, I'm reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of such a vibrant, connected, and enthusiastic community. The term is in full swing, and I can't wait to see what next week holds!
