We wrapped up the week with a bustling Book Swap in the courtyard on Friday. It was a pleasure seeing students excited to trade stories and find new favourites. Adding to the fun was the Staff Favourite Books Quiz, where students tried their hand at matching their teachers to book titles and the reasons they love them. I must say, some of the guesses were hilariously off the mark!

Year 12 Spirit Week
Our seniors brought all the nostalgia, colour and humour this week for their 2025 Spirit Week celebrations. On Tuesday, it was back to childhood as they played classic primary school games on the oval, from the parachute game to Red Light Green Light, the laughter could be heard across campus.

Wednesday saw our Year 12s channel Mean Girls in a fabulous “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink" free dress day. Then Thursday brought the wildly entertaining “Bring Anything But a Laptop Bag" day. From tidy trays and eskies to a traffic cone and even a coat rack, the creativity on show was next level. This cohort continues to set the standard for joyful school spirit, and we love them for it.
Year 12 Formal

The excitement of Spirit Week culminated in one of the most cherished events on the calendar: the Year 12 Formal. Held at the elegant Royal on the Park in Brisbane's CBD, the evening was filled with celebration, dancing, and heartfelt moments. It was a joy to see our seniors dressed to the nines and enjoying a night they will remember for years to come. I want to thank all staff who supported this evening, and of course our students, who represented our Academy with such pride and grace.

Interhouse Trivia Results
After two fiercely contested Fridays, Interhouse Trivia has been run and won for 2025! This year's competition included both Junior and Senior rounds, with the final house totals coming right down to the wire. Our incredible team of Year 11 students ran the show, giving up their lunchtimes and free time to plan, host, mark and facilitate what has become one of the highlights of Term 3.
Thank you to everyone who participated, and to the Trivia team for their professionalism and enthusiasm. After a rigorous review of scores and answers, I'm pleased to announce that Newton House has taken the crown, with Hawking securing a well-earned second place. Well done to all!
Student Achievements
Congratulations to all the senior students who represented QASMT at the Senior Winter Gala Day on Tuesday. It was a day of skill and determination, and I'm thrilled to share that our Year 10 Boys Football team and our Open Boys Badminton team both won premierships. The football team faced tough competition, including Corinda SHS, a football excellence school, and emerged victorious. These results are a testament to the dedication and sportsmanship of our students, and I couldn't be prouder.
Looking Ahead
Next week, we turn our attention to one of our most spirited and fast-paced events: the Golden Paddle table tennis competition. This annual tournament is always a crowd favourite, and I look forward to seeing students across all year levels get involved in the lunchtime showdowns. Whether competing or cheering from the sidelines, it's a brilliant way to build house spirit and enjoy some friendly rivalry.
In Week 5, we will be celebrating National Science Week, a perfect fit for our STEM-focused Academy. A number of exciting activities are planned to engage our students in real-world science, from interactive experiments and guest talks to student-led presentations that showcase the depth of talent and curiosity in our community.
Also in Week 5, our Year 10 students will embark on their highly anticipated Ski Tour to Perisher. This trip offers a memorable outdoor experience, where students will build resilience, teamwork and have plenty of fun along the way. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures on the slopes when they return.
Warm regards,
Kath Kayrooz
