On Monday 28 November, Councillor James Mackay - Brisbane City Council member for Walter Taylor Ward, visited QASMT to tour the school's Maker Space and robotics program. As part of his visit, Cr Mackay viewed a presentation by VegeMight, QASMT's regional and national award‑winning FIRST® LEGO® League team. VegeMight presented their Innovation Project which helped them win the Toowong Regional event and showed their robot which won them the Robot Design Award at the National Championships (North) on Sunday 27 November. Cr Mackay was highly impressed with the work that VegeMight had produced and expressed his hope that this group can progress their idea further in the future.
After this, Cr Mackay was given a tour of the Maker Space and spoke with some of the students currently preparing for the National Championships of the FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition, which will be held in Sydney on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December. He was extremely impressed with the expertise demonstrated by QASMT's robotics students and the dedication of QASMT's staff in providing such opportunities for the students.
QASMT would like to thank Cr Mackay for his ongoing support of the school's robotics program, especially through his direct funding of the FLL Toowong Regional event via the Lord Mayor's Community Fund.
