ARC Meeting

At QASMT, fostering student leadership and engagement is at the core of our mission. One pivotal avenue for achieving this is through our Academy Representative Committee (ARC) meetings. Each week, I have the privilege of attending the meeting, where our School Captains, House Captains and Portfolio Captains came together to discuss upcoming events, address student concerns, and brainstorm ideas to enhance the Academy experience for their peers. ARC meetings serve as an invaluable platform for the student leaders to collaborate, share their perspectives, and contribute to the ongoing development of our school community.

Languages Futsal Comp

Our school has been witnessing a thrilling display of sportsmanship and cultural celebration with the Languages Futsal Competition. Students from both Middle and Senior Years signed up in teams, representing various countries from around the world. What makes this competition unique is that players are only allowed to communicate with their teammates in the native language of the country they represent.

As the games progressed, our students not only showcased their athletic prowess, they embraced the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures and languages. With the semi-finals and finals fast approaching, the excitement continues to build as teams compete for victory while fostering a deeper appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

I'd also like to thank Mr Turner for organising a hugely popular event for our students and staff.

Mother's Day Stall

In the spirit of honouring the special women in our lives, QASMT hosted our annual Mother's Day Stall. Organised in support of the charity, Share the Dignity, the stall offered a delightful array of presents ranging from handmade cards crafted by our students to potted plants, chocolates, mugs, pamper packs, and more. Proceeds from the stall will go towards supporting Share the Dignity's mission of providing dignity and support to women and girls experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, or period poverty. Through their generous contributions and purchases, our school community came together to spread love, kindness, and support to those in need, embodying the spirit of compassion and empathy.

I am continually inspired by the dedication, creativity, and compassion demonstrated by our students, staff and parents, in all aspects of school life. Whether it's through leadership meetings, cultural celebrations, or charitable initiatives, each member of our school community plays a vital role in shaping a positive and inclusive learning environment. As we continue on our journey of learning and growth, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to empowering student leadership, celebrating diversity, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Learning Walks and Talks

At QASMT, our Senior Leadership Team regularly engages with Learning Walks and Talks, a practice advocated by Lyn Sharratt. Sharratt's approach emphasises the importance of putting faces on the data, ensuring that every student's needs are addressed. By asking five critical questions - "What are you learning?", "How are you doing?", "How do you know?", "How can you improve?", and "Where do you go for help?" - school leaders gather evidence of intentional teaching and student improvement during these daily walks (Sharratt & Fullan, 2009, 2012; Sharratt & Harild, 2015; Sharratt & Planche, 2016).

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting several classes: Year 12 Economics, Year 11 TOK, Year 8 I&S, Year 12 Psychology, and Year 11 Digital Societies. It was wonderful to engage with students, discussing their learning progress and where they seek help. I had a particularly enlightening conversation with a group of students about Artificial Intelligence and witnessed excellent pedagogy and various co-teaching strategies. I would like to extend my gratitude to the following teachers for always warmly welcoming me into their classrooms: Tarne Bay, Chris Panousis, Maddy Haywood, Susan Wisowaty, and Ged Atzeni.
