Staff Morning Tea

This week, the QASMT Wellbeing team brought our staff together for another wonderful Whole Staff Morning Tea. It was a lovely occasion for staff to catch up, play some pool, and enjoy a huge variety of delicious food provided by the Technology Department and Individuals and Societies Department.

Whilst it's always nice to enjoy some nibbles with each other, such events provide an opportunity for staff to take a moment away from the classrooms and their busy schedules to connect with each other, and celebrate our achievements. It's amazing to see the sense of community and unity within the teaching and non-teaching staff, and I appreciate the positive impact it has on staff wellbeing, students, and the entire QASMT community.

Parent Morning Tea

When it comes to morning teas, the senior leadership and I were thrilled to connect with Year 7 parents during our coffee catch-up. Building strong relationships with parents is crucial; it not only enriches the learning and wellbeing of our students but also empowers them to thrive. I wholeheartedly encourage all parents to participate in the diverse range of parent engagement events we organise here at QASMT.

Year 11 Leadership Symposium

Our Year 11's participated in their “Equip Leadership" full-day workshop, facilitated once more by the amazing and inspiring UPP – Unleashing Potential. This was a high energy, high impact training day, calling upon every student to contribute through their influence, strengths, teamwork and actions.

As the future leaders of QASMT in 2025, this is a bespoke workshop that supports our Year 11 cohort in their journey towards fulfilling their leadership potential and developing insight into what it is to be a leader at QASMT. I look forward to seeing all the applications in the coming months for the 2025 Academy leadership positions.

Year Level Parent Representative Meeting

On Thursday 22nd February, we were delighted to host our wonderful Year Level Parent Representatives at our inaugural meeting for the 2024 academic year. We extend a warm welcome to both our returning and new Parent Representatives, whose collective knowledge, experience, and fresh perspectives enrich our team.

Our parent representatives actively engaged in strategic and collaborative discussions with members of the QASMT leadership team, covering important topics including policy and procedure updates, infrastructure updates, and exciting upcoming school events.

Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate the myriad opportunities to collaborate on future projects and events, including but not limited to International Women's Day, the Festival of Creativity, Mother's Day celebrations, and numerous other engaging events. We look forward to making these endeavours successful and memorable experiences for all involved.

School Council

This week, the first School Council meeting for 2024 commenced, bringing together an enthusiastic and dynamic group of parents, students, teaching staff, support staff, and representatives from our partner university, The University of Queensland. The collegial approach to the Academy's strategic direction is at the forefront of our meetings.

Last year, I presented the preliminary 2024 Annual Implementation Plan, and invited members of the council to provide their feedback. I am pleased to advise that at our meeting on Thursday, the 2024 Annual Implementation Plan and the 2024 Academy Data Plan were endorsed.

I am looking forward to collaboratively working with the members of School Council in 2024, and I immensely appreciate each member's commitment to our school.

Year 7 Camp

If success can be measured in terms of energy and enthusiasm, then the Year 7 camp was a huge success. From the moment our Year 7 students arrived at Tamborine Mountain, they were eager to get involved in the wide variety of activities on offer. Many groups had already perfected their house chant by the end of the first day, and it was great to hear these war cries echoing across the mountains over the next few days.

Highlights of the camp included fire-building to cook delicious damper, bushwalking in the dark, and adrenaline chasing from the leap of faith and from rock wall scaling. Many new friendships have been formed, and these bonds will grow stronger as this cohort of students moves up through our school.
