Book Week

Book Week at our school was a vibrant celebration of literature and creativity, filled with a variety of engaging activities that brought our community together. Throughout the week, students and staff participated in Literary Potatoes, where they transformed potatoes into their favorite book characters, and the Taylor Swift Lyric Analysis session was a hit, as students dissected and discussed the literary elements of her songs.

The Poppet Making workshops allowed students to craft their own book-inspired dolls, showcasing their creativity and artistic skills. A particularly heartwarming activity was writing letters to the students at Prajna Vihar School in India, to whom we are donating books to.

One of the highlights of the week was undoubtedly the Costume Parade in the courtyard, where both staff and students donned costumes of their favorite literary characters, creating a lively and colorful spectacle that celebrated the joy of reading. This yearly celebration is enjoyed by staff and students alike, and I always look forward to seeing the variety of different costumes and literary inspirations taken from our community.

On Friday, we had the exciting opening of our new Reading Space in J Block, an initiative driven by MYP students Ella, Tiffany, and Ayushi. These dedicated students spent considerable time building the shelves, organising the books and borrowing system, and putting in an immense amount of time to bring their idea to life. The Reading Space provides a cozy and welcoming environment for students to immerse themselves in books, and we are thrilled to see their hard work come to fruition.

Awards Assemblies

This week, we proudly hosted our Academic Awards Assemblies to recognise the outstanding achievements of our students. We held separate assemblies for our Middle Years students and our Senior students, celebrating their hard work, dedication, and academic excellence.

The assemblies were filled with applause and cheers as students received their awards, reflecting the high standards and commitment to learning that define our school community. It was inspiring to see the diverse talents and achievements of our students, from academic excellence to contributions in extracurricular activities. These assemblies serve as a reminder of the incredible potential within our student body and the supportive environment that helps them thrive.

A special congratulation goes out to our FTC Robotics teams, Teams Odyssey and Combat Wombats, for their first-place wins at the recent FTC Asia Pacific Open Championship, as well as Ian for his Gold Medal win at the Asian Physics Olympiad. Assemblies like these allow us to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students.

Hollows House Fundraising

Hollows House has been fundraising for the Fred Hollows Foundation, demonstrating a strong commitment to making a positive impact. The house held an internal donation drive where students generously contributed.

Next week, Hollows students will be hosting carnival games in the courtyard, aiming to engage the entire school community in their fundraising efforts. These games will not only provide fun and entertainment, it also raises awareness and funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation, supporting their mission to restore sight and improve eye health worldwide. We are incredibly proud of the initiative and enthusiasm shown by Hollows House and look forward to seeing the school community come together to support this worthy cause.
