Commencement Assembly
Welcome back to another exciting term at QASMT! Our Term 3 Commencement Assembly set the tone for what promises to be a vibrant and dynamic term ahead. The Academy Captains and Portfolio Captains shared a glimpse of the exciting events lined up, including the Miskin Cup, Interhouse Trivia, Book Week, and National Science Week. We also had the pleasure of welcoming several new staff members to our school community, who will bring their fresh perspectives and expertise that will undoubtedly enrich our learning environment.
We were delighted to receive a special presentation from Eleni at Share the Dignity, and a highlight of the assembly was a beautiful rendition of the theme from Hayao Miyazaki's “Howl's Moving Castle," which left everyone in awe.
NAIDOC Week
This week, we celebrate NAIDOC Week, an important time for acknowledging and understanding the rich Indigenous culture within our school community. NAIDOC Week is a significant event in our calendar as it provides an opportunity to learn about and reflect on the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Embracing these stories and traditions allows us to continue to foster an inclusive and respectful school environment.
Student Holiday Accomplishments
We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements, both over the holidays and in this first week of term.
Congratulations to Jarrod in Year 12, a member of the Queensland Academy of Sport and the National Pathway squad in windfoiling, which is a new addition to the 2024 Olympic Games. Jarrod's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Last year, Jarrod competed at the Youth European Championships in Lake Garda, Italy, achieving a top 30 position overall among over 400 competitors. Representing Australia at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, Jarrod earned a bronze medal, showcasing their talent on the international stage. This year, Jarrod participated in their first Senior International event in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, gaining valuable experience and taking away many positives.
I am thrilled to announce that Ian has been selected as part of the Australian Physics Olympiad team, which will compete in the upcoming International Physics Olympiad competition in Iran. This follows Ian's gold medal success at the Asian Physics Olympiad competition earlier this month. Ian's dedication and excellence in physics continues to inspire our students and our school community is very proud.
I would like to congratulate Grace, who has qualified for the Qld Girls U17 Badminton team, and will be competing at the Australian Nationals Competition later this year. Grace's achievement is a testament to her hard work and passion for the sport.
Congratulations to Mido and Sera, who presented at the SPARQ-ed Senior Research Immersion Program at the Translational Research Institute. Mido and Sera showcased their outstanding research and dedication to scientific inquiry. Their presentations were well-received and showcased a high calibre of our students' academic pursuits.
