Sustainability Week
This week, we celebrated our annual Sustainability Week, a vibrant and engaging week-long event dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. The week kicked off with a thought-provoking STEM Seminar from Dr Anh Tran, who shared insights on humanitarian engineering and its role in solving global challenges. This enlightening session was held in our Lecture Theatre and set the tone for the rest of the week.
On Tuesday, we held our whole school Sustainability Assembly, where we emphasised the importance of sustainability and our collective responsibility towards the environment. We were fortunate enough to have Anna from Line Pone Koala Sanctuary give us an update on our adopted koalas, Morris and Portia. Our Sustainability Ambassadors gave an insightful presentation on our school's sustainable programs and plans for the future.
Throughout the week, the courtyard buzzed with elation as students participated in the Litter Picking Championships and the Sustainability Scavenger Hunt. These hands-on activities encouraged students to think critically about waste management and environmental conservation.
The highly anticipated Sustainable Fashion Parade enables students to showcase their creativity by repurposing recyclable materials into stunning fashion pieces. I was extremely happy to be a judge again this year, and I must admit it was tough trying to choose a winner. All of the designs were a remarkable demonstration of innovation, sustainability and creativity. Congratulations to everyone involved in making Sustainability Week a resounding success!
Festival of Creativity
On Friday night, we concluded Sustainability Week with the most anticipated event, the Festival of Creativity. It was spectacular! Our school was transformed into a bustling hub of artistic expression. The festival featured multiple stages showcasing music and dance, as well as a mesmerising art exhibition. The QASMT courtyard was filled with over 1500 attendees who really brought an energy like no other.
The Festival of Creativity was a true celebration of the arts, providing a platform for our students to share their passion with our school community. From captivating musical performances, to stunning dance routines, and thought-provoking art installations, the evening was a testament to the incredible creativity and talent within our school.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our parent volunteers, student volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly to make this event so successful. I would also like to thank our school community for contributing to such a successful evening.
Miskin Cup Chess
The second Miskin Cup event of the year was a thrilling chess match between QASMT and BBC, held at BBC. This tournament brought together some of the finest young minds from both schools.
Our students displayed exceptional strategic thinking and concentration throughout the match, making it a nail-biting contest. The camaraderie and sportsmanship shown by both teams were commendable, highlighting the true spirit of the Miskin Cup. Although the competition was intense, the respect and mutual admiration between the participants were evident. We are incredibly proud of our chess team for their dedication and performance.
Congratulations to all the players for their outstanding efforts, and a big thank you to BBC for hosting this exciting event.
Assessment Forum
On Monday, we invited selected students, parents, teachers and leaders to participate in the 2024 QASMT Assessment Forum. During this forum, we sought key stakeholder voices on the topic of Assessment at QASMT. We highly value the opinions and voice of our students, parents, teachers and leaders, and it was invaluable to have representatives from these groups in one room talking about the big issues surrounding assessment at our school. We asked participants their opinions around different aspects of assessment, some of which included fairness, manageability, inclusive access and skill development.
It was a wonderful event, with honest and meaningful discussion occurring between mixed groups of students, parents, teachers and leaders. We would like to sincerely express our thanks to all the Assessment Forum participants for their willingness to collaborate and share their different experiences and perspectives on this topic.
